Pope Leo XIV has reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s stance on gay marriage and abortion in his inaugural address to the Vatican diplomatic corps. He emphasized the Church’s definition of family as being based on the union between a man and a woman and highlighted the inherent dignity of unborn children and the elderly. His remarks provide a clear articulation of core Catholic teachings on these social issues. Additionally, he addressed the importance of international relations and interfaith dialogue as essential tools for world peace.

María Lía Zervino, a member of the Dicastery for Bishops and former WUCWO President General, expressed confidence in Pope Leo’s leadership, noting that he has consistently shown respect for women’s voices in Church governance.

She stated, “I’m convinced that he doesn’t need to learn how to work (with women), how to let them speak, to listen to them, to have them participate in decisions, because that’s what he does anyway.”

Her remarks suggest optimism that Pope Leo will continue to elevate women’s roles within the Church while maintaining doctrinal traditions.
