On the 13th of July 2022, Maria Lía Zervino, Servidora,  President General of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organisations (WUCWO) was appointed, by Pope Francis, to the Dicastery for Bishops together with other two women.

For the first time, three women will serve, by the will of the Pope, in the process of identifying and electing the new diocesan bishops.

In an interview with Vatican News our President emphasised the historical nature of this moment and stated that “...it does the Church so much good because as the Pope says, the Church is woman... Surely, with the other members of the dicastery, we will have to study who are the candidates for bishops, advise, and to count on a feminine vision in such cases is something wonderful".

“A huge surprise from Jesus, as the Lord usually does. This had never crossed my mind and I am very, very grateful to the Holy Father Francis for this appointment.”
