To His Holiness Benedict XVI

Holy Father,

On behalf of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations, I wish to offer You our deepest and most filial wishes for Your birthday.

I take this opportunity to express our sincerest thanks for Your words during Your Regina Caeli prayer on April 9th, Easter Monday: we have welcomed them with joy as an encouragement for all women who bring their irreplaceable contribution to the ecclesial community with dedication and sensitivity in every corner of the world.

We ask Mary to support You in Your mandate so that Christ may always be Lumen Gentium.

Best wishes

New Internet site of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

”doctrinafidei.va is the address for the new Internet site inaugurated March 16 by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.  The site is presented in eight languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Latin.  The English address is: http://www.doctrinafidei.va/index.htm

Certain documents will also be available occasionally in Hungarian, Slovak, Czech and Dutch.

In the March 16th message released by the dicastery it was noted: "As we know, the Documents of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith are approved expressly by the Holy Father in his role as the successor of Peter in the Magisterium (cf. Instruction Donum veritatis The Ecclesial Vocation of the Theologian, May 24, 1990, no 18). This explains the necessity for an attentive reception of these documents by the faithful, and especially by those who are engaged in the name of the Church, in the theological and pastoral areas”.

This decision will facilitate direct access to the texts: "In today’s world, a wider dissemination of the teaching of the dicastery is necessary. In fact, the documents released since Vatican II until the present are collected in the volume CONGREGATIO PRO DOCTRINA FIDEI, India documented has Concilio Vaticano Secundo expleto, published 1966-2005, LEV, City of the Vatican, 2006, pp. 668 -  and treat important questions concerning the life and the mission of the Church, offering sure doctrinal answers to challenges that await us".

The Holy See calls attention to the needs of rural women in a speech delivered at the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women.

"Rural women oftentimes work in deplorable situations against odds that defy imagination,” the Holy See warned.

The speech mentioned some of the problems experienced by rural women: hunger, poverty, long hours of unpaid work, unhygienic situations, limited access to health care, discrimination and exposure to violence. Then, the women who migrate to urban areas or to other countries also face the risk of exploitation.

Improving the lives of rural women will not only help them, but their families and the local community, the Holy See affirmed.

"Education and training, the provision of resources, service delivery, access to financial systems and communication technology are just some areas which demand ongoing attention as they lead to realization of the right to development,” the address continued.

"Women, and in particular rural women, should be given the recognition that is due to them and they should be able to make an impact on the world around them,” they declared.

"The Secretary-General rightly indicated in his report that the advancement of rural women and girls is an essential part of the solution to today’s most serious global challenges,” the Holy See concluded.

Important document released at the UN

On October 6, 2011, an expert document was issued at United Nations, New York:

the San José Articles.

The San Jose Articles provide expert testimony that there is no such thing as an ‘international right to abortion’,  contrary to what UN personnel and others say and many people think.  This document provides us with a tool to help us refute these claims and to assert the rights of the unborn child in international law.

See: http://www.sanjosearticles.com/ and diffuse this information widely to your members, organisations and governments.

As the New Year begins, the Holy Father, in his address to the Diplomatic Corps January 10th, deplored the many challenges of the Christians all over the world struggling for their religious freedom.

He also stated: "Acknowledging religious freedom also means ensuring that religious communities can operate freely in society through initiatives in the social, charitable or educational sectors” and "another attack on the religious freedom of families in certain European countries which mandate obligatory participation in courses of sexual or civic education which allegedly convey a neutral conception of the person and of life, yet in fact reflect an anthropology opposed to faith and to right reason.”
